Overview
Henderson Beach State Park is a great spot to find a Gulf-side ride in Destin. The grounds are well maintained with bathrooms, covered pagodas, scenic hiking trails, and you'll find ample (paid) parking. The beach wasn't crowded when we visited in August, but expect crowds during the tourist season. You'll probably find the best Gulf rides in Destin at this park, since there's a small fee for entry, and you won't have to worry about beaches getting roped off by hotels and private renters.

Since Henderson Park is a state park, you'll need to pay a fee to enter the park ($3 as of this writing). While you'll find ample parking, you'll need to haul your kit over boardwalks/bridges to get from the parking lot to the shoreline.
